Walgreens January Sales Increase 2.7 Percent

DEERFIELD, Ill., Feb. 3, 2010 - Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) had January sales of $5.36 billion, an increase of 2.7 percent from $5.22 billion for the same month in 2009. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) decreased 1.1 percent.
The impact of calendar day shifts had a negative effect of 1.3 percentage points on comparable store sales in January, which had one less Thursday and one more Sunday compared with January 2009.
January pharmacy sales increased 1.6 percent, while comparable pharmacy sales decreased 1.2 percent. The effect of calendar day shifts negatively impacted comparable pharmacy sales by 1.9 percentage points. In addition, comparable pharmacy sales were negatively affected by 2.3 percentage points due to generic drug introductions in the last 12 months and a lower incidence of flu compared with January 2009. Pharmacy sales accounted for 66.2 percent of total sales for the month.

DEERFIELD, Ill., Jan. 6, 2010 - Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) had December sales of $6.3 billion, an increase of 3.6 percent from $6.1 billion for the same month in 2008. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) decreased 0.3 percent.
December pharmacy sales increased 4.8 percent, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 1.8 percent. Comparable pharmacy sales were negatively impacted by 2.1 percentage points due to generic drug introductions in the last 12 months.
Prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased 4.1 percent in December. Comparable prescriptions filled were positively impacted by 1.1 percentage points due to more patients filling 90-day prescriptions. Pharmacy sales accounted for 59.4 percent of total sales for the month.

Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) increased 4.9 percent, while comparable store front-end sales increased 4.7 percent.
October pharmacy sales increased 9.3 percent, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 5.0 percent. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) increased 1.0 percent. Comparable store front-end sales increased 0.2 percent versus last year's increase of 6.0 percent.
May pharmacy sales increased 6.3 percent, while comparable pharmacy sales increased 1.5 percent. Comparable pharmacy sales were negatively impacted by 4.5 percentage points due to generic drug introductions in the last 12 months.
Prescriptions filled at comparable stores increased 2.8 percent in May, including 1.7 percentage points due to more patients filling 90-day prescriptions, which are counted as three 30-day prescriptions. DEERFIELD, Ill., May 4, 2009 - Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) had April sales of $5,381,000,000, an increase of 11.1 percent from $4,845,355,000 for the same month in 2008. Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) rose 5.7 percent, while comparable store front-end sales increased 8.9 percent.
Sales were helped by Easter falling in April this year compared with a March Easter last year. Sales for the combined months of March and April 2009 increased 9.0 percent from the same two months in 2008. Comparable store sales for the March/April period rose 3.7 percent, while comparable store front-end sales for the combined months increased 1.3 percent.

Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) rose 1.5 percent, while comparable store front-end sales decreased 5.6 percent.

Sales in comparable stores (those open at least a year) decreased 1.9 percent, while comparable store front-end sales decreased 3.5 percent. Last year's February sales benefited from one extra day because of leap year.
